Foreign patent filings from China also represent a change in recent years. According to the WIPO, the number of PCT applications from China is increasing year by year. In 2008, China filed more than 6100 patent applications, ranking the sixth in the world for the first time. In the same year, Huawei Technologies Co. The Examined Trademark Registration Applications break 1 million in China in 2009 |

Up to September 15, 2009, the amount of trademark registration applications in China in 2009 exceeds 1 million, reaching 1.005 million. So far China ranks No.1 worldwide in terms of the numbers of trademark registration applications, applications examined and valid registered trademarks, and has become the top country in the field of trademark registration. The China Trademark Office under SAIC spent 8 and a half month in 2009 to complete the workload of trademark examination which used to take 3 years and 3 months in the past. The efficiency is increased at a rate of 153% than the same period of the previous year. A sample survey shows the percentage of quality examination is over 98%.
According to Li Jianchang, Director General of the China Trademark Office under SAIC, this is an important milestone in our trademark history, a contribution to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of People¡¯s Republic of China. The fact that annual number of examined trademark applications breaks 1 million means the China¡¯s trademark examination capacity has increased significantly and can meet the demand of trademark registration caused by the development of social economy. The improved efficiency in trademark examination lays a good foundation for shortening the time frame of trademark registration examination to 12 months next year.
